Travel is big business, especially now. Due to the pandemic, no one has traveled for 18 to 24 months. But after the opening, people start traveling again. Google Flights is improving its services, promising to find "the best deals for your next flight." Is it better than other options?
Assistance in booking tripsAlthough Google introduced Google Flights over a decade ago, I realized it was an option. To be honest, I didn't know it existed. And I really love my travels – and in this sense also my travel offers. But I've never heard of Google Flights, which is probably the reason for these PR blog posts about how to save money on travel.
Just a few decades ago, we did not have the opportunity to find our own tourist offers. We had to go to a travel agent to book our flights. Although I always do this when booking a cruise, it's very easy to use Expedia, Travelocity, etc. on my phone or computer to book flights. But I already have a favorite airline, so I book direct.
But I've used Expedia and similar services in the past for both flights and hotels. You should have all the options available. Some apps will send you a notification when they detect that the price of airline tickets has dropped or is about to increase. You can find similar services for hotels.
Turns out, Google Flights has always done this. And when I tried it, I found it couldn't be easier. Of course, this requires knowing what Google does with the data I add, which can be a big inconvenience for many.
Google Flight HelpMaybe Google is trying to tell me and others that now that travel has resumed after the pandemic, it's still doing the math to help us book our trips. The blog post was published after analyzing five years of airline ticket data to find pricing patterns.
The question is often asked which day is the cheapest to travel. Many book for this reason during the week. After research, Google wrote that sending on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday was historically 12% lower than on the weekend. Domestic travel in the US is 20% cheaper.
I rarely want to book a connecting flight, partly because it doesn't save me any money either. Why should I do this? However, Google Flights insists that non-stop flights are historically 20% more expensive than connecting flights.
Another burning question is what day of the week is best to book a flight. I heard about it on Tuesdays, especially late at night. But Google says you don't have to wait until Tuesday and only book on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, when prices have historically fallen by 1.9%.
Another question is how many days before the flight should you book tickets. Google notes that domestic flights in the US usually become the cheapest 21-60 days in advance, and prices reach their lowest fares within 44 days.
However, when booking for the holidays, a local Thanksgiving cruise can be booked 36-74 days in advance, and a Christmas cruise is best booked 22 days in advance. However, flights may be booked during this time. Google suggests favorite days, summer and spring break for booking specific places
Today is 82 days until Thanksgiving, so it's probably too early to book if you're looking for the best deals, but then again, you might see flights booked or at least the seat you want already booked if you wait. long
