Welcome Climate Week Nyc 2022

Moheildin told Insiders he was at Climate Week to prepare for COP27, which will take place from November 9-18, 2022 and will focus on the theme "Together to Deliver."

"Basically, everyone is interested in the decisions we can make at COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh," he said. "I think we've heard a lot about the problems, about what went wrong. But I think there are many ideas that can really be put into practice.”

Mohaildin said he saw good ideas at other World Climate Week events he attended recently. “A lot of these solutions, as I've seen at many other Climate Week stops in Africa and more recently in Latin America...there are a lot of good examples, but we need scale and data. That's basically why my team and I are here."

Mokheldin participated in a panel discussion entitled "What prevents us from doing this?"

"Ultimately it has to be about money, about finances," he said during the debate. Mohieldin said leaders should back the promises made at COP15, held in Copenhagen in 2009. Back then, rich countries pledged $100 billion a year to help developing countries fight climate change.

"Out of 23 countries," Moheldin told the audience, "only six or seven fulfill the old promise."

"I think one of the areas where he will focus on building confidence and moving forward is going back to old commitments and seeing how they have been fulfilled," he said. He added that the work of the private sector and foundations is also essential, but real progress is hampered by a lack of public investment. “Without government action, all of this will be limited. Give us funding and funding so we can move forward.”
